The group programs listed below are held at the Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center (SCMELC) and are designed for students in grades K-12. Following a lecture on local marine life and the importance of our marine environment,
students will visit our touch tanks to enjoy a hands-on experience with the creatures
they have just been introduced to, and visit Asian White-spotted Bamboo Sharks.
Students will explore the adjoining wetlands to learn the important role they
play in our marine environment and to search for seashore plants and animals.
Included in the exploration will be digging at the shoreline for burrowing animals
along with seining the bay to collect fish, crabs and other marine invertebrates.

| Kayak Marine Ecology Course - Grades 5 - 6 | |

This environmental studies course includes a detailed lecture on local marine
animals and then students kayak through one of the most unique habitats on the
North Fork, a 70-acre salt marsh. This course also focuses on preservation. Children
must be 10 years of age to participate. Weather permitting only.

| Maritime Historical Walking Tour - Grades 2 -12 | |

The maritime history course focuses on Greenport, a vital maritime seaport in New York State throughout the past 200 years. This program is in co-operation with the East End Seaport museum and will include a tour of the museum. Students will then begin their historical walking tour, stopping at many of the historical structures and monuments. (3 hours)
